New View Tours is pleased to offer a 10 night/10-day exploration of the Castles and Caves in the Dordogne region in southwest France.
The trip is an exploration of the earliest artists and architecture from Bordeaux to Toulouse, France. Plans are in place to visit a variety of pre-historic caves with magnificent paintings, etchings and relief sculptures created 19 – 28,000 years ago. The newest cave is a re-creation in the Musee Lascaux lV opened December 2016. We have tickets to the original, exclusive Font-de-Gaume; Rouffignac, Cap Blanc and Peche Merle. We explore castles of Beynac and Castlenaud, where English and French kings battled across the banks of the Dordogne River.
We include a walking city tour of the World Heritage City of Bordeaux. We have a private dinner and wine tasting at the Chateau Haute Baily. The Arcachon will lure us to the Dune of Pilat overlooking the Atlantic and the Gironne River. Then we travel out of the city across the valley to St. Emilion vineyards and classic village where the monk, Emilion lived his life as a hermit. In Les Eyzies we see the renowned National PreHistoric Museum of France and enjoy fine restaurants in this village on the Lezere river. We stop at fortified “new towns” built by nobles – for example Sarlat, known for its marketplace filled with foie gras and fresh fruit. A stop en route to Toulouse will be Saint Cirq Lapopie – a unique community well deserving of the “most beautiful town in France”. We’ll wrap up our tour with travels across
the Lot valley to Albi, the home of a 13 century monumental brick cathedral
and the Toulouse Lautrec Museum. We take a final day trip to explore the fortification of Carcassonne.

Travel days: Tour starts in Bordeaux Wednesday September 20 at 1 pm. We wrap up in Toulouse on Sunday, September 30, 2017 when a private transfer to the airport is provided. Tour is designed for 6-12 travelers.
